WMPC Radio:
A Century Milestone
Through every generation, one message has remained at the heart of WMPC:
the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Since its first broadcast on December 6, 1926, WMPC has been a voice of Christian faith and encouragement in Lapeer and beyond. What began with a homemade 50-watt transmitter at the Methodist Protestant Church grew into one of the nation's longest-running Christian radio ministries. Over the decades, WMPC moved to 1230AM, increased its power, expanded to 24-hour broadcasting, and embraced new technology to reach more people. From its earliest days, the purpose of WMPC has remained centered on sharing the Gospel and bringing the hope of Jesus Christ to listeners.
For 100 years, WMPC has been more of a radio station. It has been a ministry woven into the lives of generations, providing Bible teaching, Christian music, encouragement, prayer, and a connection to the local community. As broadcasting changed from AM to FM and eventually to worldwide streaming, WMPC continued to find new ways to reach listeners while holding firmly to the same message. In 2026, as WMPC celebrates its centennial, the story is not simply about how far radio technology has come. It is about 100 years of God's faithfulness and a message that has never changed: Jesus Christ is the hope of the world.
